Ken finally decided to go and see his family physician about his drinking behavior. At first, Ken thought he would be able to basically go on the Internet, look for some straightforward alcohol abuse and alcoholism information and decide whether or not he was alcohol dependent. Not unexpectedly, he found numerous websites that specified some of the common symptoms of alcoholism. That’s the good news. The less than encouraging news, sadly, was that Ken presented many of these alcoholism symptoms.
Symptoms of Alcohol Dependency: Some Illustrations
For instance, Ken was drinking significantly more than normal and he was starting to have more highly charged bickering with his girlfriend. Moreover, for the first time in his young life he was experiencing sleeping difficulties. In a similar way, Ken time and again felt depressed and on a growing basis he had been displaying limited concentration at his place of employment.
Moreover, he felt stressed out and more nervous on a daily basis and for the past few months he displayed befuddled thinking while on the job. In view of the fact that Ken displayed all of these symptoms, he was rightly worried about his hazardous drinking.
So Ken at long last decided to place a phone call to his healthcare professional and ask for an appointment. Actually, this was hard for Ken because his family physician was also his parents’ family healthcare practitioner. The source of his disquiet was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and expose his irresponsible and excessive drinking behavior to his family physician.
When Ken arrived at the family doctor’s office, he overtly informed the healthcare practitioner about the concern he had about his irresponsible drinking behavior. When the doctor asked what was stimulating this apprehension, Ken stated that he had gone on the Internet and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcoholism symptoms. He then listed all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he obviously thought he exhibited.
An Inclusive Physical Exam and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab
The family physician told Ken that it was intelligent of him to address his drinking difficulties, he gave Ken a thoroughgoing physical examination, and suggested that he sign into an out-patient alcohol rehab center that was managed by one of his doctor colleagues.
Additionally, when Ken expressed the fact that he had been feeling depressed to an increasing extent, the physician informed Ken that alcoholism and depression often happen in the same individual. Therefore, the family doctor also suggested that Ken get therapy to concentrate on his depression.
The Importance of Facing Your Drinking Issues and Getting Inspired About Making Successful, Positive, and Healthy Changes in Your Life
The family physician made it a point to notify Ken that he might not inevitably be dependent on alcohol, but that he was unmistakably drinking in an excessive manner. Stated another way Ken was exhibiting alcohol abuse signs.
The physician then informed Ken that the reason he suggested alcohol rehabilitation in the first place was because he wanted him to deal with his drinking issues, make sure that he prevented them from deteriorating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to entirely quit drinking.
To be brief, by successfully treating his drinking difficulties, Ken would be able to get his drinking difficulties under control and abstain from the negative cycle of events that could most likely result in alcohol addiction.
Certainly, Ken did not want to face the thought of getting registered into an alcohol treatment center. Nor was he thrilled about going to a therapist about his gloom. Notwithstanding these anxieties, nonetheless, Ken actually felt some emotional relief for the first time in quite a few months because he ultimately stopped making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind to do something affirmative about his drinking activities.
With such a positive frame of mind, it was highly probable that Ken would be successful in his alcohol rehab as well as in his therapy for his depression.
