Information About The Swine Flu Virus, The Precautions You Can Take And Treatments Available

Today we are ever more at a greater risk from the various strains of the flu virus than we have for a long time. First we had alarms about bird flu, and recently swine flu has become a major health problem. Swine flu is a greater problem than bird flu. It was feared that bird flu may mutate into a strain that would infect humans, thankfully, apart from a few isolated cases, this has not occurred to date.

Swine flu is a greater concern, swine flu is able to pass between humans which makes it an extremely serious health problem.  Swine flu or influenza A (H1N1) is a flu virus that infects pigs. Swine flu outbreaks in pigs does not normally infect people although it can happen sometimes.

Swine flu is a new type of virus and therefore is particularly dangerous to humans. This means that no one has been in contact with this particular strain before, and therefore no one has developed any immunity to this virus. It is our built in immunity that stops viruses from becoming life threatening, with no inbuilt immunity we have no defense from the virus. Absolutely everyone is vulnerable, including healthy adults as well as young children and elderly citizens.

Swine flu can easily result in a pandemic flu situation. Pandemic flu situation occurs when an influenza viral strain develops that is very different from previous flu strains that very few, if any, people have any immunity to. This allows the flu virus to spread widely and rapidly in the population.

Pandemic flu differs from ordinary flu as explained below.  Seasonal influenza happens annually, mainly in the winter months. About 10 to 15 percent of people are effected and the majority will recover with no treatment in 1 to 2 weeks.

Pandemic flu affects many more people, it can be up to half the population, pandemic influenza is much more serious, all ages can be infected.

Swine flu symptoms are very similar to the symptoms of ordinary flu. Symptoms include a sudden onset of a fever, cough or a shortness of breath. Symptoms that may also present themselves can include headaches, sore throats, muscle aches, chills, sneezing, runny nose, loss of appetite and tiredness.

What precautions should you take. Anyone displaying flu or cold symptoms needs to take some simple precautions. The flu virus is spread between people by the small droplets from the nose and mouth when someone sneezes or coughs. This is how viruses such as swine flu are spread through the population. Covering your face with your hands when you sneeze or cough is not enough. The virus simply sit on your hands, then everything you touch becomes contaminated with the virus. Anyone touching the same place as you will pick up the virus and then risks becoming infected. Always use a handkerchief or tissue. A disposable tissue is better, this should be disposed of as soon as possible, and always use a fresh tissue if you sneeze or cough again.

A vaccination against swine flu is not available. The vaccination for seasonal flu is not effective in the fight against swine flu. By the time a vaccination is found, it can take many months to manufacture, and by that time the virus could have changed again making a new vaccination possibly ineffective.

The only real effective precaution against swine flu is Tamiflu. Tamiflu is not guaranteed for the prevention of swine flu, but if you have been in contact with someone else who has the flu virus, Tamiflu can help in stopping the virus making a person sick. If Tamiflu is taken in the first 48 hours of contracting the swine flu virus, it will help to stop the flu virus spreading throughout the body, thereby alleviating the signs and symptoms and risk associated with the virus. Governments are stockpiling Tamiflu, these supplies will naturally be used to treat important workers and individuals before the population at large.

however you buy Tamiflu online, if the situation arises you can offer as much protection as is possible to yourself and loved ones. It can’t be emphasized enough, Tamiflu needs to be administered as early as is possible for it to be effective, delays in treating the virus will diminish how effective Tamiflu is.

Also, remember that swine flu is a worldwide danger. Should an outbreak become global it is possible that supplies of Tamiflu may be diminished and may not be high enough to meet a large global demand.  Until such time that a vaccine is discovered and produced in the quantities required, Tamiflu is the most effective treatment for swine flu, it would sensible to buy Tamiflu beforehand if you feel you or your loved ones are at risk.
