Making Your Curb Appealing

The way your house looks is one of the first things you should think about before preparing it for the market. First impressions are the most important and whether or not your home has ‘Curb Appeal’ could be the determining factor between people stopping or just driving on by.

Curb appeal is an initial deciding factor and it does not matter if you are listed with a Realtor or have a ‘For Sale’ sign on the front yard. The first thing they do is take a photo so that people can see the front of the house listed.

The untrimmed hedges and tree branches may not worry you but in this instance they should.

Rather than seek out reasons to buy homes buyers are busy cutting down their prospective list of houses. If a buyer rides by and sees an unsightly tree, they may consider that a headache they don’t want to deal with, or just a sign that you may have overlooked maintenance in other areas as well.

While de-cluttering may focus on the inside of your home, the term can apply to the outside as well. Old furnishings, swings and patio sets may do more harm than good so consider throwing them out as soon as possible. Children’s play areas may cost money but an outdated one will not look very appealing and the same can be said for outdated furniture  that is outside.

Consider your pots, plants and trees, do you need landscaping? Whatever is not in a satisfactory and appealing condition will actually help you lose money on your home. Even though you might not want to deal with a tree trimming company when you’re hoping to move, don’t expect that potential buyers are any more eager to take on that headache. Anything that is almost in need of work should be attended too as well as disposing of that old tree that is about to fall down.

At the same time, look for ways to enhance your curb appeal without investing a lot in what should soon be your former home. Touch up any trim outside your house to make it newer and brighter so it is more appealing to the buyer. Seasonal flowers will add color to the landscape so add some. You can even keep them in pots instead of planting them, use flowers such as tulips for spring and petunias for summer, seasonal flowers.

Place potted plants along the porches and down the driveway, anywhere that is not blooming you will not have to put them in the ground. The flowers can be taken with you if you wis and the extra color will help to sell this house.
