Infertility Symptoms – Definitions
A couple is infertile when they are unable to have a baby after 12 months of regular and unprotected intercourse. Infertility is the inability to have a baby.
Couples respond in different ways after being told they are infertile. The news can be particularly hard on couples that are without children.
Infertility in couples who’ve never born children is primary infertility.
In another light, secondary infertility refers to couples who had successfully gotten pregnant before but are now having problems conceiving.
Maleness
A number of factors, both physical and emotional, can trigger infertility.
Infertility cases in men, like low sperm count, retrograde ejaculation, scarring from sexually transmitted diseases, hormone deficiency, and impotence, make up approximately 30-40% of cases.
Intake of prescription drugs like nitrofurantoin, cimetidine and spironolactone and even frequent marijuana use can negatively affect sperm count.
The Woman Factor
Pelvic infection, scarring from STDs, endometriosis, ovulation dysfunction, fallopian tube abnormality, tumors, hormonal imbalances, and even poor nutrition are some of these “female factors.” These comprise 40 to 50 % of infertility cases among couples.
Factors from both male and female, including other unknown causes, make up 10 to 30% of infertility cases.
It is projected that only 10 to 20% of couples won’t be able to get pregnant after one year. It is very important for couples to try having a baby for at least 12 months.
Factors Related To Age
Couples who are healthy, are below 30 years old, and have intercourse frequently have just a 25 to 30 per cent chance a month of conceiving. Women in their 20s are at the peak of their fertility. Pregnancy for women more than 35 years old is 10% less, even lower for those over 40.
Other Non Age-Related Factors
Infertility is not solely blamed on age-related factors. Infertility may also be worsened by the following:
* Having more than one sexual partner (high STD risk)
* Sexually transmitted infections
* Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) history
* Orchitis or epididymitis history in males
* Mumps among men
* Varicocele in males
* Health history citing DES exposure (both sexes)
* Eating disorders among women
* Irregular menstruation and anovulation
* Endometriosis
* A blockage in the cervix or uterine defects
* Long-term disease like diabetes
